This is the perfect piece for your home or for a gift to anyone really. This can be done of a child, pet, husband, wife ext. It adds the most precious touches to your home doubling as art and memorabilia. I have found two ways to make the silhouette, using procreate or using the editing tools in photos on iPhone.

I personally find that using procreate is a tad easier process although I understand that not everyone has access to the app. Using the photos editing tools in iPhone is a completely free method to get the same look although it requires a little more patience.

If using procreate start here! The first thing that you will want to do is take a side profile of your subject. I have done this with babies and pets and it works just the same. Add the photo to a blank page in procreate, I start with screen size as it is easier if you may want to make different size prints. Once the photo is imported you will add a new layer. Now, you need to trace the head and neck of your subject using black. I use the gel pen brush with the size at its max. Once your subject is traced you will fill in the image that you traced until the head is completely solid black. Now, return to your layers and hide the bottom layer, your original photo. That should leave you with just the silhouette of your subject. Feel free to edit any areas now. Once you satisfied with you project you can copy the image and then return to the home page of procreate. Now you can start a new drawing selecting the image size of what you will print your silhouette as, I used 4x6. Then you can paste your image into the new 4x6 project and viola, you have a beautiful silhouette.

@gabrielleshayy DIY silhouette using procreate. Perfect for a baby or pet silhouette. I paired my baby’s silhouette using a gold mirror for the antique vibes. I will be adding both our dogs now too 🤍 #diyhomedecorideas #procreatetutorials #silhouetteportrait #diysilhouette #antiquegoldframes ♬ Kawaii Aesthetic - LoES

If using iPhone photo tools start here! The first thing you need to do is take a side profile photo of your subject. Next create a sticker of your image by holding down on the subject. Once an outline appears around the subject select “share”, t"hen “save to photos.” Now return to photos and select your new sticker image, click edit and then use the “mark up” tool, which looks like a marker in the top right corner. Select the color black and trace around your subjects head and neck. Then fill in the object that you traced with black. Then select the color white and start tracing around anything left in the image except for the head. Go ahead and fill in the rest with white. You should be left with your silhouette. Here you can edit any final details. Now your item is ready to be printed.

@gabrielleshayy DIY silhouette using iPhone photo tools. Perfect alternative from using procreate and still creating the beautiful look. Slightly more tedious but totally worth it. 🤍 #silhouette #diyhomedecor #diyprojectideas #antiquelooks #diygiftideas #silhouetteportrait ##diyhomedecorideas #iphonephototips ♬ Stargazing (Slowed + Reverb) - Marcelo De Carvalho

From here I printed my image and used an antique inspired gold frame to give it a vintage feel. I’ve linked similar antique frames below for inspo.
