DIY Felt Envelope

This DIY Felt Envelope is perfect for your kids. I made mine for Valentine’s day which will be great as my child approaches the toddler ages. Although, this would be perfect for a first birthday, letters to Santa, or art work.

You will need felt in the color of your choice, measuring tape, scissors, yarn, needle, thread, and hot glue. After you select your colors you will measure out the size you will want your envelope. I cut two 8”x6” pieces and an 8” by 3-4” piece. For one of the 8”x6” pieces you will fold it in half a cut a small rounded triangle dip in the fabric. For the smaller piece you will also create a small rounded triangle dip, this will be the envelope flap. If you want to add any details to your envelope now is the time. You will cut whatever shapes you want. I cut different shaped hearts out of red felt to add to the valentine’s feel. You can either hot glue or sew the shapes on to the 8”x6” felt piece that has the dip and to the smaller 8”x3” piece. Thread your needle and start sewing the full 8”x6” piece with the smaller 8”x3” piece, lay the flat side of the smaller piece on top of the larger piece. You will sew along the top edge of the piece, the 8” side to create the envelope flap. Lift the flap and place the 8”x6” piece with the dip over the full 8”x6” piece. Sew along the 3 open edges, this will create the envelope. Once sewn together you can lay the flap down and now you have a beautiful felt envelope. Feel free to add finer details on at the end using hot glue.

I will be making more of these for yearly birthday letters and a letters to santa envelope. This makes the cutest keepsake or toy for your child. It is also completely customizable, size, shape, colors, etc.
